Hoping for winter

Shocking, I know.
The past few weeks have been a blur – a frenzy of school activities, valentine prep, parties, big work projects and who knows what else… All I know is that it may have all been fun but it’s sure more fun now that I can look back at it and smile and remember. And sleep. Amazing how quickly that gets scarce.
So, it’s no surprise that I’m hoping that the weather guys are right about the impending storm. There’s potential for some serious inches of winter precipitation and as long as it’s not ice – as we’re prone to have in these parts – I’m all for getting stuck at home and being forced to slow down.
I reserve the right to change my mind with the onset of cabin fever.
In the meantime, the house is stocked with normal food, special baking ingredients, and entertainment. It better do something… Because who wants a high of 24 degrees and no excuse for not being able to get to school/work?
Look for updates from winterville.

100

One hundred days of kindergarten.
Seems just like yesterday that we were saying goodbye to her on the first day and now here we are, 100 days in.

A combination of stuff we already had, plus a pair of new fake glasses and chalk in her hair, and of course some sassy poses… Little 100 year old lady.

She has learned so much though… They do a lot of work with those kindergarten kids in that amount of time.

So, since it was the 100th day AND a Friday AND national pie day, it just seemed wrong to just let it pass without adequate celebrating. We just had to have pie. Pioneer Woman’s chocolate peanut butter pie.

Mia loves watching Pioneer Woman and always wants to try her recipes. So, we watched and followed the steps.

Finn did a great job taste testing everything.

All done!

It was delicious, and as you can tell from what happened to Finn, very rich.

Sugar rush!

100 days ago, what’s happening in this next picture wouldn’t have been possible….well, not without a lot of making things up along the way.

Definitely worth pie!

Back in the routine

It’s Friday of the first week back to school and while the alarm clock is still not my favorite part of this week (is it ever?), I’m happy that we are back in a routine and schedule. Mia was excited to go back to school and Finn….went back and liked it. Not sure he’ll ever be the one counting down the days of summer vacation 😉
It took him a few days of adjusting to Mia being gone so he did some prep work that she could see after school:

And Mia, the great sister that she was played the part well of acting excited and ooing and aahhing.
But honestly, I don’t think there’s much pretending. They really do love each other and want to be together as much as possible. This is what I found one morning when I went in to get Mia for school.

Sweet kids. Even if they do drive each other nuts sometimes.
