1/2 Way There

We’re officially half way through the pregnancy…when I think of it that way, the planner in me really starts feeling the need to kick in and get things organized and in place.   It’s a little unsettling that this child has no name, no room, no bed, no diapers, and no clothes (well, she has 2 outfits so far; that should last us about an hour…).   Of course, there’s still plenty of time, but the first half flew by so quickly that I know September will be here before we know it.  So for the last few evenings I have been searching for cribs, bedding, rockers, and nursery decorating ideas.  Still haven’t found what we want, but we’re narrowing down the options so that’s progress.

In celebration of being halfway there, I got 1/2 my hair chopped off.  Well, not for that reason and maybe not that much, but I did cut probably a good 8 inches off.  It’s starting to get warmer and I had my hair up in a ponytail all the time, so I decided to cut it.  I’ll have Mark take a picture so you can see it.

For now, here are some pictures of what Mark surprised me with last week:

Mark had to go return a movie and he came home with these: pink cookies, pink ice cream, and pink “It’s a Girl” balloon.

Then, we came home one day and I found a box of flowers by the front door: Mark had surprised me by ordering this beautiful bouquet of pink flowers as a Happy 1/2 way there and Happy early Mother’s Day.  It’s my first Mother’s Day gift…it was really, really special.  You can’t really tell, but there’s at least 5 more lilies yet to open.

Isn’t he great?

Uh Oh…?

I guess there are always two sides to the same story.  Or everyone hears/reads what they want to.  Here’s what my parents (well, maybe just my dad) saw when they read my post — that I so cleverly wrote around us having a girl… :o)

I’m sitting in the living room listening to the rain and thunder outside.  I don’t know what is up with this Arkansas weather but we have gotten so much rain in the past month.  The plants are sure loving it (as is our grass, which is not so great for us because we can’t get out to mow it) and it’s nice to see all the evidence of Spring.  It’s about time, is what I think…  I was a little worried there for a bit that we wouldn’t ever see the end of winter (29 degrees in mid April?).  I love listening to the rain, though.  All I need is a cup of tea.
Speaking of tea, we could have totally had a tea party in the nursery on Saturday night. 4 girls.  All wearing pink.  It was Mark and the ladies.  Usually that many girls in one room could be disastrous :o) but they were all sweeties.  Of course, I guess I could say it was semi-disastrous because my track record of not changing any diapers came to a screeching halt and I changed 3 (!), two of which were quite the doozies.  Mark still thinks he has it made…men aren’t allowed to change diapers in the nursery.  Yeah, he’s not really complaining about that rule.  How come all of a sudden, all these diapers needed to be changed?  I go 3 months with nothing and then in one night – 3 – bam!
I had one girl who was very attached to me the whole night.  At one point, when I was trying to
comfort her, I was talking to her about her baby doll.  She was hugging it tight and I asked, “can you give her a kiss? give her some sugar?”  She looks at me with wet eyes and comes right towards me with her lips puckered to kiss me.  How sweet is that?
It’s getting late, so I should probably get to sleep.  I’ve woken up once or twice already with heartburn, so I’m trying to remember what foods trigger it.  I should probably stay away from spice and tomato based sauces, but mexican and italian both sound good to me (any and all the time).  Oh well, that’s just part of it, I guess.  I had spaghetti and meatballs today (for lunch, at least, so maybe it’s worn off by now).  Here’s hoping to a nice night of sound sleep.

Yes, it’s possible the tech was wrong — girls are sneaky that way.  I have already said that we’ll have a good laugh if, at birth, we discover we’re having a son and not a daughter, but this will just make it funnier since in some odd, subconscious way I predicted it?  Of course, it could just be my dad trying hard to mess with our minds.  He’s good at that.  Guess we’ll have to wait until September to see which way this story will really go.

Yesterday’s post…

….was full of information.  Information many of you had wanted to know for a while.  It was all there.  You just had to look a little deeper.  Here, I’ll help:

I’m sitting in the living room listening to the rain and thunder outside.  I don’t know what is up with this Arkansas weather but we have gotten so much rain in the past month.  The plants are sure loving it (as is our grass, which is not so great for us because we can’t get out to mow it) and it’s nice to see all the evidence of Spring.  It’s about time, is what I think…  I was a little worried there for a bit that we wouldn’t ever see the end of winter (29 degrees in mid April?).  I love listening to the rain, though.  All I need is a cup of tea.

That’s right…we went for our ultrasound this week and it looks like we’re going to be welcoming a little girl!  With girls there is always a slight chance that, ahem, we’re not seeing things, but even though the ultrasound technician didn’t want to confirm it, she was calling our baby a girl by the end of it.

Everything seems to be going well so far.  She was moving around a lot and even gave us a thumbs up at one point (well, at least we think she did).

Now that we know more information, I feel like we can start planning more (I was waiting for that), and since we’re officially half way next week, we should probably get moving on the preparations…

Oh, and sorry for the post being so random…it’s hard getting sugar and spice in there nonchalantly :o)…good thing I didn’t have to come up with a way to incorporate frogs and snails and puppy dogs’ tails…you would have really thought that I was losing it.
