Farewell 2014

I thought it would be nice to do a fun little recap of 2014 with lots of great pictures thrown in to give us a visual walk-through of the year. That’s not what you’re going to get though, because honestly most of my blogging these days happens from my phone and I just don’t have what it takes to do pictures and link backs to previous posts and more importantly, the kids are running around undressed after their shower and I should probably take care of that.
The truth is that it might be kind of hard to do a fun recap. 2014 kicked me up a bit. This was not an easy year for us and while I know that being able to write 2015 on stuff doesn’t mean everything will automatically be easy, it’s nice to tie a bow on this one and put it away. At this time last year, we had no idea the valleys we would walk through, the tears we – mostly I – would shed, or the amount of stress I would feel in sending a child to kindergarten.
Yeah, I would not want to see this year again. But, I do see the good throughout this tough year. Just when all seemed lost or there was no time left, God made a way. A better one than we could ever had imagined. For every situation this year that made me cry out in the shower, I can show you where we stand today and prove that it’s a good thing there is One who knows me and knows best. It’s a show me a hopeless situation and I’ll show you an amazing end kind of story.
So yeah, 2014 is probably not going to ever be one of my favorite years. It will, however be a year that I remember as a time of growth and lessons and leaning into God.
2015, excited to see what you have.

First Day, Round 2

Well, seeing as my last post was on Mia’s first day of school, only seems fitting that today’s topic is the same. Except this time it was this little guy’s turn:

Finn first day of preschool

Of course I forgot to have a little sign for him to hold but hey, it’s preschool (at the same place that he goes year round, so that makes it less of a transition) and hey, I did get a sweet picture of him in the car line.

So, in between these two first days, we’ve had 3 weeks of kindergarten and so far everything is going well, Mia still loves it and I think we’re finally getting into a routine. We just had open house tonight with her teacher and I left liking her even more. I think it’s going to be a great year. In Kindergarten and in Preschool!

Celebrating 10 Years

Mark and I were able to get away for an extended overnight date. We weren’t sure we were going to be able to do it but in the end it all worked out and we’re so thankful for a great sitter and friends who made it possible for us to be gone for 30 hours.

Mark surprised me with dinner and the hotel – at a place we’ve always wanted to stay not too far from home. It was such a great hotel and the only downside was that we didn’t have longer to enjoy it.

Something unique about this place is that it has these penguins all over the hotel and the staff moves them around all the time. It’s funny to come into a hallway and see one standing in a new place. The ones in the elevator actually startled me once.

10 years

Here we are in that same elevator, this time without the penguins.

We tried not to pack too much into the weekend. We mostly wanted to just take some time to celebrate and relax.

And we were able to do just that. We had so much fun but we were ready to see the kids again. They had a great time too, so all in all, it was a great weekend for our whole family.

Unfortunately, it’s Sunday night and that means it’s time to make lunches and get ready for work/school tomorrow. Oh well…guess I better get to it.
